John Fitz Rogers

John Fitz Rogers’s compositions range from solo, chamber, and orchestral works to a 45-minute concerto for electric guitar, keyboards, and computer-generated orchestra. His music has been programmed throughout the United States and abroad by ensembles and venues including the Louisville, Albany, Tulsa, and Charleston orchestras, the American Composers Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, MATA Festival, Ensemble Sospeso, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Composers, Inc., and the World Saxophone Congress. Recent projects include commissions from the New Century Saxophone Quartet, the Opus Two duo, a consortium commission from seven universities, and an upcoming recording on Channel Classics. Rogers holds degrees from Cornell, Yale, and Oberlin, where he studied with Martin Bresnick, Jacob Druckman, Steven Stucky and Roberto Sierra. He is currently an Associate Professor of Composition at the University of South Carolina School of Music, where he is the founder and director of the Southern Exposure New Music Series, which received the 2007 Chamber Music America / ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
