Odd Appetite

Odd AppetiteClick to Enlarge

Odd Appetite, Ha-Yang Kim on cello and Nathan Davis on percussion, makes music that is inspired by their experience with Western, Balinese, and Karnatic music and infused with a fascination with acoustic phenomena. They present their own compositions as well as works by select composers. Based in New York City, they have performed in the US, Europe, Bali, Cuba, and Turkey, and debuted at Carnegie Hall as soloists with Gamelan Galak-Tika in Evan Ziporyn's Amok!. Exponents of American experimentalism, Odd Appetite has collaborated with Christian Wolff in a series of performances of Wolff's seminal Exercises and recorded with Larry Polansky for Cold Blue Records. The next season will bring new pieces from Ha-Yang and Nathan as well as commissions from Lee Hyla, Yannis Kyriakides, and Stefan Weisman. Odd Appetite will perform in festivals in St. Petersburg and Moscow, and will appear on an upcoming monograph cd of Ha-Yang's music on Tzadik.
