Real Quiet

Real QuietClick to Enlarge

Real Quiet is a three-man band with a repertoire of hard-edged acoustic and electric music by today’s leading composers. Made up of percussionist David Cossin, cellist Felix Fan, and pianist Andrew Russo, each highly accomplished soloists and chamber musicians dedicated to the advancement of contemporary music. Real Quiet’s first commissions include: Annie Gosfield’s “Wild Pitch,” a piece inspired by the 2004 World Series; Phil Kline’s “The Last Buffalo,” dedicated to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson; and Marc Mellits’ “Tight Sweater,” which resulted in Real Quiet’s first commercial recording. Recently, Real Quiet premiered “WORK,” a video installation by Suzanne Bocanegra with live music by David Lang. The group will also be premiering a new triple concerto, “Pierced,” by David Lang, in June 2007 with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. The La Jolla Music Society’s Summerfest and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival are co-commissioning four new works written for Real Quiet over the next three years, the first being a composition by March Neikrug, followed by pieces from Kaija Saariaho, Huang Ruo, and George Tsontakis.
