Caught by the Sky with Wire

by: Nick Didkovsky

Caught by the Sky with Wire is a suite in seven parts for cello and percussion. The entire piece is based on a mode I came up with several years ago while my wife and I were visiting friends in the south of France during a quiet summer. The pitches of the scale are C#, D, E, F, Gb, Ab, and B. It inspired many hours of slow improvisation. Recently I rediscovered the mode as a rich source for composition. The titles are taken from stories I wrote concerning prayer, trees, the manufacture of miracles, and the abuse of numbers. Caught by the Sky with Wire is written for Steve Schick and Maya Beiser. -Nick Didkovsky
