Lost Exit
by: Sussan Deyhim
I've been aware of Bang on a Can since their early days when we were both part of the progressive 'downtown' music and art scene. I've always admired their high level of musicianship and broad aesthetic choices. Coming from the non-formal/microtonal/electronic side of composition where personal aesthetics and free form expression defy categorization, it's great to be approached by the All-Stars. Their enthusiasm and open-mindedness enable a composer to explore very personal impulses. Ironically, Lost Exit -- born of progressive impulses -- is the most classical piece I've ever written. My intent remains, as always, to transcend form into the cosmic realm where I believe music lives.
