Mute Dance
by: Victoria Jordanova
I am interested in bridging the boundaries between electronic and acoustic music, between the composed and the improvised. Thus there are several versions of Mute Dance. The first uses sampled sounds on tape combined with live improvisation. This version - the third - orchestrates thesamples, using acoustic instruments in their place. Mute Dance (Nemo Kolo)is a 16th century Serbian dance. Dancing in the middle of the mountains, the dancers were not allowed to sing or play music. One could hear only the tapping of their feet and the jingle of gold coins sewn on the women's attire. The gold coins were their dowry. I have tried to give sound to their silence. -Victoria Jordanova
