Tell Me Everything
by: Julia Wolfe
Tell Me Everything was originally written for La Camarata of Mexico City and premiered at Festival Cervantino. The original version is for 16 instruments. This arrangement for the Bang on a Can All-Stars is the piece condensed down to the bare essentials. In this version you can more clearly hear the melody line and it is considerably less noisy than the original. I like both versions. When I was writing the piece I was very into the rhythm -- making it irregular--everyone playing in their own time but together in a kind of off-beat samba--like several unwieldy joyful village bands playing together. There were so many times while writing this piece that I broke into laughter -- wondering can I really write this, can it really go on like this? The original version of TELL ME EVERYTHING was recorded by New York's SPIT Orchestra for Point music on Julia Wolfe-Arsenal of Democracy. --Julia Wolfe
